Why are we reimagining Boulder Highway?
Due to changes in traffic patterns, the construction of US 95, and the community development around this area, Boulder Highway has transformed from an urban highway to an urban roadway. We continue to have a high number of fatalities along this corridor, and the City is applying a holistic, multifaceted approach to safety. Some of these safety improvements will require lowering speeds, so it may take a little longer to get from point A to point B, but the City is focused on saving lives, while providing improved transit, bicycle and pedestrian travel options.
Why are the trees being removed?
The trees in the median are currently being removed for the construction of the BRT lanes. Other landscaping along the corridor is being removed to conserve water. This is a temporary condition, and as a part of the project, new landscaping will be installed in areas that have been disturbed. Additional areas will also receive decorative rock and other desert-adaptive decorative landscaping.
When will construction start?
Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2024.
How long will construction last?
Construction is anticipated to last until late 2026, however, there are some areas of the corridor that will be completed sooner.
What are the project limits?
The portion of Boulder Highway within the City of Henderson, Tulip Falls Drive to Wagonwheel Drive. Ultimately, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) System will serve 7.5 miles of Boulder Highway.
Who is funding the project?
The project is being funded with a federal grant and by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) and the City of Henderson.

Will the current bus schedule be impacted by construction?
The current bus schedule is not anticipated to change at this time.
Will the speed limit along Boulder Highway change?
The speed limit will be reduced to 35mph to improve safety for other uses of the roadway such as pedestrians and cyclists.
What is BRT and how will it be different from the current Boulder Highway bus system?
BRT uses the latest technology for buses, providing an elevated transit experience that is designed to be faster and safer. When the project is complete, the BRT will operate in the median of Boulder Highway, reducing the length of pedestrian crossing of the roadway. The buses will have a designated lane so their interaction with general purpose lanes will be minimal, expediting services. The BRT will operate in a similar manner as the existing transit routes.
How many travel lanes will there be in each direction when the project is finished?
Upon completion of the project, there will be two travel lanes in each direction for motorists, and one lane in each direction designated for the BRT system. This will reduce travel lanes to four, calming traffic, which will enhance safety. It will also improve access to all modes of transportation with widened sidewalks, designated bus transit lanes and enhanced bike lanes.
What public feedback has the City of Henderson received about the project?
Community and stakeholder engagement undertaken through the Multimodal Transportation Investment Study indicated the following:
• 79% approved the overall project concept
• 83% in favor of widened sidewalks
• 76% liked cycle tracks
• 76% approved center-running transit
• 70% in favor of mid-block crossings
• 90% liked additional street lighting
What will happen to the existing frontage roads?
This project will leave frontage roads in their existing condition.
